I think it weighs more every year based on the growth of plants and animals, but not because of buildings.

The Law of Conservation of Mass says no - matter is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes form. Therefore, if we went on a diet, the food we would have eaten would be stored elsewhere (in a plant, in an animal, in the soil).

Besides this, we account for next to nothing of the earth's overall mass (which is 6 million, billion, billion kilograms). Of this mass, even water (commonly assumed to be one of the commonest materials on earth) makes up only one-fiftieth of one percent.

When people go on a diet, it makes no difference , because the food they did not eat stays on the super-market shelf. So the worlds` weight stays the same

It would not change the earth's weight by as much as a gram. Every bit of matter that goes on someone's waistline comes out of the ground, so the total mass of earth and the people on it is constant.

I think if everyone went on a diet, a lot of starving people in poor countries would die. I think the world would be lighter if everyone who was overweight went on a diet though.

No. The only way the world becomes lighter is when hydrogen is released into the atmosphere (and rockets) because it just carries on going into space. All other gases have weight which is kept in by our atmosphere and gravity.

No, because there would be more food left over and that would weigh as much, if not more, than the weight loss
