does that make him a hater of America? I was watching Larry King and a tape was played in which he lambasted Bush. So, was he a tool of the terrorists and a closet libbie? Will he be remembered as a traitor since he broke ranks with Bush?

Being old gives one the advantage of telling the truth and not giving a damn about the consequences. Ford had the backbone to call it like he saw it. Hey, when you are in your 90's who cares what people think?

And he was dead right on this one, too.

And it doesn't seem to be Larry King but the Washington Post. Here's the link:

No, it was only his opinion and he was in-titled to that. But as always the liberal media is using it as a tool against the administration and most likely quoting President Ford out of context. As a writer I fully grasp that this happens all the time and I'm having an easier time catching it. Especially when news casts cut and paste all their segments together to fit the mold they want the story to be seen in.

Edit: I skimmed through Stev's link and I don't see the alleged quote either.

But I love this quote, it really shows the greatness of President Ford and his understanding of what the US stands for:

"FORD: The world knows where we stand. The world is ever conscious of what Americans are doing. For better or for worse. Because the united states today remains the most successful realization of humanity's universal hope. The world may or may not follow but we lead because our whole history says we must.

The establishment of justice and peace abroad will in large measure depend upon the peace and justice we create here in our own country, for we still show the way."

President Gerald Ford, was the most compassionate president America has ever had. He could see the mistake of engaging in war in Iraq. He will be remembered for what he was, a very intelligent, thoughtful, straight-up, compassionate, honest president. He possessed great integrity.

You must not have been around when he was president. I'm a Democrat and I respect President Ford and his service to this country in one of it's darkest hours as he brought us from the brink of civil war.

Stop confusing dissent with disloyatly. Just because you don't agree with the war doesn't make you anti-american a tool of the terrorists or a closet libbie.
Don't close your mind.

Great Question! And reading your answers, I see MORE party lines being drawn. Sadly, though, republicans clearly forget that THEIR leader was the one who said, "You are with us, or against us". So does that make GWB the ultimate hypocrite when he was applauding the late Gerald Ford yesterday? Make up your mind George! We all knew you were a moron, but now, it would appear that you are not man enough to stand behind your words.

Won't make a bit of difference -- nor should it. Ford was entitled to his opinion, but at the time it was not his responsibility to try to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States.

Ford was a citizens and he is entitled to his opinion just like the rest of us. The only thing that sickens me is how our liberal media is praising him now, but I remember how the media tried to destroy him by calling him a bumbling idiot. remind you of anything? it is like deja vu all over again.

America haters say and do things that actually harm America, its solders and its citizens. Things like calling American solders cowards and killers. Things like what John Kerry and Jack Murtha said. Things like 'we mistreat prisoners' like Dick Durban and Nancy Polecy (sp). All these things were lies meant to harm President Bush and his effectiveness as our leader. They also harmed our image and provided propaganda for the enemy. What President Ford said, was as has been mentioned here by previous answers, was dissent. What the Liberals did before the election was treason.

No, he wasn't privy to the intelligence that our current president had. This was the same intelligence that said:

Saddam was linked to Al Qaeda
Saddam had WMD
The war would pay for itself with oil
We'd be welcomed with open arms

and on and on and on. The schtick from the right is getting old. I wish they'd just admit this huge mistake and move on.
