currently running win 2000 server with about 12 xp machines on network. Need to share a drive on the win2000 server machine that is accessed by all xp machines. looks like there is a current limit of 10 concurrent connections. How do i get a registry hack to allow more connections to the shared disk on the server.

There is no concurrent connection limit on Windows 2000 Server. It sounds like you're using Windows 2000 Pro as a server. There's no way to alter the concurrent connection limit on that OS.

One exception: If you are running Small Business Server 2000, there is a limit on concurrent connections based on the number of CALs installed on your system. The only way around that is to purchase and install more CALs.
