Trial and error is the way to go, and on a 3x3 magic square won't take long. Hint: try 0 in the center.

If you want to help your grand-daughter then do this.

1- Get her to explain to you what a magic square is.
2- Ask her if she has seen any at all. The chances are she will know the one containing the numbers 1-9 where all the sums are 15.
3-Take 5 from each element in the square.
