Age isn't the issue. She would have to be tested in Language arts and Mathematics to determine what grade level would be best for her. Strictly going by age, on average, most 13 year olds are either in grade 7 or 8. These grade levels are often considered Junior High School or Middle school, or Intermediate School. (Junior High / Middle Schools may house grades 5 through 9. Typically it is grades 6 through 8)

I grew up in America before moving to the UK, when I was 13 I was in Eighth grade, but I was one of the youngest in my class, so she would either be in Seventh or Eighth depending on when her birthday fell, I think an October birthday is the cut-off for the higher grade.

Hope this helps :)

If your sister does go to America it is likely she will not automatically be put in the 8th gade with other kids the same age as her, but first be invited to take some assessment tests to see what would best suit her both intellectually and socially as our schooling systems are a bit different.

7th or 8th grade if her birthday is late in the year, but most likely in the 7th grade if her birthday is early in the year.

(age - 6 = school grade)
