Murderer.
When asking questions using words, try and check the meaning of the words that you use in the question.
For example, a murdered is a person who kills innocent people. We know for a fact, after the Americans uncovered mass graves, that the toll of people killed under the Saddam regime nears 400,000 Iraqis.
A martyr is a person who sacrifices his / her self for a more divine cause; like that of dying while fighting for a country, a religion, etc...
If one can be so twisted in their minds as to deem what Saddam did as martyristic (if there is such a word)... then after all, what is anything but our internal and personal perception of it.
Pay attention to the words you use... language is not so shady as to allow nouns to be confused! Adjectives, perhaps... but not nouns... (Martyr vs. Murderer)

Saddam will be viewed as both as their are many factions that still see him in a good light.
I believe when and if he is executed, there will be a major upheaval that will bring about a huge blood bath in iraq and perhaps spill over into other nations.
Personally I think we should ask that he be locked up for life, in a prison cell with no contact with the outside world.
This would be a better punishment. Simply hanging him will put him out of his misery. He won't feel anything at all after that, while the rest of the people will be in total fear of dying as a result of escalation of violence once he's executed.

No onr can honestly say, though because he did not win the Iraqi war (no one has won it, and America probably won't) he will probably be remembered as a murder. It is the person who wins the war that is remembered as the hero, weather they were the true criminal in the matter or not. If Germany had won WW2, Hitler would have been a hero and we would have all hated American leadership at that time.

Both depending on where you stand. If you were a Bathist party member or a Sunni Muslim you probably will think of him as a Martyr. If you are Kurdish, Iraqi Shiite, or American or from Kuwait, then you will think of him as a murderer. I am an American that has a friend who is a Shiite living outside of Baghdad. We think of him as a sadistic murdering sociopath and the sooner dead the better!

In America and most parts of the world, he will be viewed as a murderer. However, it may be different in Iraq or among people that supported him.
I was interested to see that he wrote that letter expressing that people essentially shouldn't hate Americans. Is he actually expressing regret as the time of his death draws closer or is this a last minute piece of PR? Either way, I hope his supporters comply with it, although I doubt they will.

History will never be sure of the extent of Saddam's crimes. What it can be sure of, is that the releasing of Saddam to the Iraqi excuse for a court was illegal and short-sighted.
First of all, the deathsentence will not be recognize be most countries, and the rest of them cannot recognize the court sentence because of how the trial was lacking.
We do not know for certain, if Saddam was a murderer, but we do know, that what is done to him IS murder.
