PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. The main issue that this comes up with TTC is that when you have PCOS, you don't ovulate. When the ovary fails to release an egg, a cyst forms, and over time, you can end up with ovaries that look like chocolate chip cookie dough. The failure to or irregular ovulation also causes your cycles to be irregular.
People with PCOS also tend to (but don't necessarily) have excess facial hair, sometimes thinning hair (male pattern baldness), can be overweight, have excessive acne. Insulin resistance is a key player in PCOS patients. If left untreated, the weight and the hormone imbalance can lead to health problems from not only infertility, but diabetes, heart disease and uterine cancer (from the uterine lining failing to shed regularly).

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common hormonal disorder affecting women. A genetically-linked hormonal imbalance that prevents ovulation. PCOS also may cause overproduction of estrogen, abnormal thickening of the uterine lining, very heavy and/or irregular periods, as well as acne and facial hair. The latter are caused by an overproduction of male hormones, including testosterone.
