this is becuase of a process called osmosis.

basically the higher concentration of water in the plant will move to the lower concentration outside it. (salty water is of a lower concentration then pure water)

so basically the plant shrivels up and dies

Yes - sea water will harm most plants because there is too much salt and non nutritional supplements in sea water - unless of course they were undersea plants taken from source. Some seaside grasses and plant have higher resistance but will not sustain life solely on untreated sea water. The question intrigues me, why was it asked - May I know?

Yes it will kill plant life because of salt content. Plants are delicate and must be cared for properly in order for them to sustain life.

Yes, in sufficient quantities, though some plants are more tolerant, and thrive on being next to the sea.

See what type of plants. If it is plants like mangroove tree or others ofcourse it won't be killed but if you are talking about plants in your house...DIE DIE DIE!! 100% DIE!! The water moves out of the plants continuously and the plant will die. But if you immediately give it a lot of fresh water, it will become turgid again.

yes the salt will kill them. i use salt water to kill the weeds in the cracks of the sidewalks.
