I am having a party on March 2007 and all of us need to wear ball gown. I have planned to custom make a ball gown.
Normally ball gown need to wear a hoop skirt to make it look full but some of it are using a lot of layers of tulle (more
than 20 layers) to make the same effect. What is the advantage and disadvantage for both types? Which is easier for me to walk in it? I will wear a 4" heel with the gown, which gown is suitable for my heel?

The hoop skirt is no fun to dance, eat, sit or use the restroom in. I would go with the extensive fabric to make the dress stand out. Also I suggest you go to a bridal store in your area and try on both designs to see how YOU feel in them. The only problem that I can foresee is that if you are not use to walking in 4" heels then you might get your heel caught on some of that extra fabric so be careful.

Actually, I wouldn't go with either the hoop or the tulle. A hoop is just a pain to to things in, since the stiffness of the metal/plastic holds the shape no matter what you are trying to do (sitting, dancing, going to the bathroom, etc...) The many layers of tulle can and will get hung up on the heel of your shoes.

Instead, look for either a tiered petticoat that has ruffles (the more tiers, the fuller the slip)

or one encases the tulle/nylon between two layers of fabric so it won't hang on your shoes, or rub wrong against your legs.

There are also some sheer ball gowns out there. They are better suited for 4" heels and, in my opinion, look MUCH sexier. But you have to pick out what you feel best in. If you're going with hoops or layered fabrics I'd suggest not wearing the heels.
