Hi, just bought a 19" Samsung Widescreen monitor. I have installed all the drivers. Then I tried updating the drivers for my Sis 760 video card that originally came with my computer. It gave me more resolutions ( from 640x480 to 2048x1536 ), but none of them seem to fit just right or look right. Either the browser goes off the screen or someones face looks smushed. Is there anything else I can try ??
Do I need to buy another better graphics card?? I read that the screen supports up to 1440X900. Is that the setting I need for it to look right? Do I have to find a graphics card that supports that?

Thanks a lot! You guys will be a lot of help to me, take care and happy new years.

1440x900 is what you need to set it to yes, and chances are your graphics card can support it right now. try updating the driver or checking the monitor's manufacturer's website.

Most 19" widescreen monitors will only display right at 1440 x 900 and with about a maximum of 75Hz refresh rate.

Try to get a list of supported mode of resolutions for every graphics card you intend to buy , check if wide screen aspect is supported, most new graphics support it, i recommend NAVIDA or ATI. also try to use a DVI port if your monitor have it, the graphics looks better that way....

if the screen only goes up to 1440x900 that's what you want to set your graphics card at to look right, it will be in your settings in control panel, then go into display then settings and there will be two screens click one to 1440x900 and apply if it doesn't look correct keep changing the res here until it looks right hope this helps

the oracle is right
but remember the sum divide the 1440 by the 900 and you get a ratio of 1.6 this is correct for wide screen
if you divide 800 by 600 you get 1.3 which is for the squarer screen

Have you gone to the manufacture's website for your video display adapter and video cards and get the latest drivers for both?
