Please help me with aprevious queation as well...........What is the term used when one thing chosen or accepted automatically means other things are rejected

One answer for each:

1) (on the) tip of my tongue

2) "Mutually exclusive" would work as would "eliminated by default"

It's referred to as the TOT State, TOT = Tip Of [the] Tongue.

"On the tip of your tongue". On the previous question, i think "mutually exclusive" is the best term.

I think the other answer might be 'default'.
