Likely scenario: telecom consumers throughout Asia may experience slowdowns for a couple of weeks as traffic is rerouted from the damaged undersea cables. The worst is definitely over, though another quake will certainly disrupt service in the future, as Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan has decided not to invest in more backup lines.
