They've got to have been pretty brave to allow someone else to put thin discs of glass in their eyes. Were those first lenses made of glass (depends on when, I suppose). Does anyone know?

Leonardo Da Vinci is considered to be the first person to come up with idea of something like a contact lense... but it wasn't until 1887 when a german guy Adolf Eugen Fick inveneted first more or less proper contact lense, you could wear it only for a few hours a day, it wasn't very comfortable!

I don't know who wore it first! I imagine the same guy! ;-)

I don't know who the first person was, but when I was 15--I'm 44 now--my first lenses were glass.

They were invented in the 14th century and made of wood.

They were not very popular then, but took off late in the 20th century when glass ones became available.
