According to geographical standards millions of years back the earth was going under many climatic changes and shifting of underneath bed plates,as due to undersurfae volcanic eruption from earth core the eruption of volcano eroded and there were many element layers erupted from the volcano.After the vocano settled down to huge layers of mounts which were in the form of mountains almost tonching the sky,forming snow caps tonching its peak tips.This came into existence as measured was by when the continent were shifting into europe,asia,africa etc.

The Indo-australian plate is slipping under the eurasian plate gardually.
Some 25 million years ago they collided and since then the Himalayas started forming.
As more of the Indo-australian plate seeps below the fault line the himalayas get more bigger in height.
himalayas is thus a relatively new mountain range in geological terms.

Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate are 2 continental plates. These 2 continental plates must be seperated by an ocean floor that is being subducted. The edges of the plate that is not subducted will show features of a oceanic-continental convergence, that is, subduction and a benioff zone of earthquakes. When the ocean is fully gone between the 2 plates, the continental crusts collide. The plate that is together with the oceanic plate will be dragged down into the mantle abit, but does not subduct as it is too buoyant and thick. Compressional force then cause the sedimentary strata between the crusts to fold and crumple, resulting in a fold mountain belt.
This is the case of the himalayans, that is why it have oceanic-continental convergent properties but is the collision of a continental- continental boundary.

The area now occupied by himalayas & the northern plains of india was under a sea called TETHYS. It was between 2 gaint land masses the ANGARALAND & GONDWANALAND.
For millions of yrs denudation of 2 land masses resulted in deposition of silt into the sea .the 2 gaint masses slowly but steadily headed towards each other . This lateral compressional force acting frm 2 opposite directions made it not only shrink but also buckled up forming a chain of islands to begin with & over millions of yrs into mighty fold mountains such as the HIMALAYAS of today.

Though we see maps north upside, Earth settles towards North as though South upside. That causes plate collision to form mountains.
One such big mountain is Himalayas.

As long ago indian austrillan land was same;"Gondwana",this was its name.
This was a huge plate which collided with the euroasian plate forming the GREAT HIMALAYAS.
That's why himalayas have high tetonic activity.
Even its size increases every year
