Did a little research... =P

Manas (Indian) meaning "Intelligence"

Found some other names with similar meanings that are short and would make decent nicknames. The following are all boys names from different origins.

-- Albert (English) meaning "Noble and Bright"
-- *Al (short for Albert)
-- *Akio (Japanese) meaning "Bright Boy"
-- Mihn (Vietnamese) meaning "Bright and Clever"
-- Bert (German) meaning "Bright"

If you're a religious/spiritual family these are similar boy names with a religious conotation:

-- *Ugo (Itailian) meaning "Mind, spirit"
-- *Hugh (German) meaning "Bright Mind & Spirit"
-- Manny (American male name meaning "God is with us")
-- Hieu (Vietnamese) meaning "Pious, understanding" [I think this would sound too much like "Hey, you." which is what you'd say if you didn't know someone's name, which is kinda rude and bossy sounding.]

The following boy names have similar meaning, but since they are also used as girl names they may come across as feminine sounding... he might get teased for having a "girly" sounding nickname, so think carefully befor using any of these:

-- *Skyler/Skylar (American) meaning "Scholar"
-- Ly (Vietnamese) meaning "Reason"
-- Bede (English) meaning "Saint of Scholars"
-- Ming (Chinese) meaning "Bright"
-- Cong (Chinese) meaning "Intelligent, Clever"

Considering the Indian name, I figure there's a chance you might actualy be living in India, and if I remember correctly there are some regions in India (where the majority are Hindu or Sikh) that are opposed to Islam and Muslims... so you may not want to use any of these boy names considering their origin.

-- *Arif (Arabic) meaning "Knowledgable"
-- Baqar (Arabic) meaning "Man of Knowledge"
-- Ulema (Arabic) meaning "Scholars"

There's one other name I came across:

-- Gyan (Indian) meaning "Knowledge"

Names with (*) are the ones I'd probably use if I were you and had a boy named Manas.

I'd go with "Al" if you were wanting to "Americanize" him. "Ugo" if he's kinda heavy and tough. "Arif" if he's kinda skinny, but rugged. "Hugh" or "Skyler/Skylar" if he's skinny and kinda "dashing" in looks.

I picked "Akio" because I spent time in Japan and kinda liked the idea of using a Japanese name, it's what I'd use if it were me.

Hopefully he lives up to his real name and has "Intelligence". =P
