He apparently passed away last Tuesday.
I read about his pardoning of Nixon and how there was some suspicion about a deal they made together. What do you think about the matter?

Ford's legacy is that he pardoned Nixon. This was probably a shame he had to live with all his life. By pardoning Nixon he didn't give the American people closure. They were dishonored by Nixon's criminal actions and they didn't get to see consequences. It left the nation feeling powerless against the crimes their government commits against it's people. The only thing they could do was vote against him in the next election. If Ford had truly cared for our political system and the people of the country he swore to serve, he would have never pardoned Nixon. Instead he stood by the good ole boy system.

Ford was probably a great man, but his loyalty to his party and his disloyalty to "what is right" cost him the respect of a nation and maybe even the world. Historically the good father, good husband, nice person he was will never over shadow that decision to pardon Nixon.

We lost a former president last Tuesday but we lost Gerald Ford the day he signed those papers to pardon Nixon.

If you were not aware of Watergate and what the nation was going through at the time you could not understand the turmoil and hatred of all things Nixon. The man brought dishonor not only on himself but on the office of the President. When Gerald Ford was sworn in as President he had nothing but the distrust of the people of this country he decided that the best way for the healing to begin was to pardon Nixon and in that way get him out of the picture fast. If we had a trial it would have gone on for months and the nation would have suffered for it. Pardoning Nixon cost Gerald Ford a 4 year term of his own but in retrospect it was the best decision he could have made. The world and the US lost a fine man on Tuesday and I wish we had more like him.
