What a lot of people in your situation do, liberal arts/English/history majors is that go to Asia to teach English. Japan and South Korea are the highest paying options. Japan doesn't pay for your plane ticket there and back, whereas South Korea would. You can make anywhere from $2,000/mo to $5,000/mo teaching English in South Korea, basically with your rent out of the way, you can save a lot of money in 5 years. If you need more info, let me know.

Life is more than just money. You have wealth now in that you still have a parent to care for. If you focus on obtaining financial wealth in the next 5 years and you lose focus of the ones that love you, what have you really gained?
If you are spiritual, ask God for guidance and help with your situation. If you're not spiritual, try it. Faith has saved my life more than once.
Peace
