Laptops can work in any part of the world; certainly, your laptop will work in Brazil however, you have to make certain that you have the following gadgets.
1. at least 3 types of Power Main Adapters (3 prongs, international and polarized), as Brazil may or may not use.
vers
2. a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with 2 kinds of Power Settings.
3. a 902.11b/g wireless Router for WiFi Connection.
Be aware of the humidity especially in Rio as your laptop may not be geared for humid places.
Have fun!

Laptops will work anywhere in the world as long as you have two things...
1. the correct plug for the sockets in use in that country. (If not, just use a mains adaptor, as the other answers indicated)
AND
2. a special protection device against power surges. (You don't want your laptop to be electrocuted, in a manner of speaking!)
Enjoy Brazil

just check it in the adaptor, it is written on it.
