The former opera star Jussi Bjorling who was considered to be one of the greatest tenors of his time drank heavily before giving a performance. When he sang close to the female soprano she would almost keel over from his breath. I understand that one lady actually went to her knees from the smell of alcohol. Enrico Caruso the famous tenor who sang at the Met in NY also had a bit of a drinking problem. He became very childlike and played tricks on the other performers. He once ate an onion and mixed the odor of the onion with alcohol and during a love duet sang directly into the soprano's face. She fell backwards but didn't keel over. She hated him for the rest of her singing days and refused to perform with him.

The Dean Martin alcoholic bit was just an act -- he wasn't really drunk while performing. It has been said that he was actually drinking apple juice on stage. Not that he didn't drink at all, but his reputation as a booze-hound was just part of his act while performing.

YEP!!

Aerosmith was wasted for nearly a decade!! Not just alcohol but some pretty potent drugs!! They gave some of their best shows stoned, unfortunately they barely remember them!
They are still on top and all original band members are still together after 30 years.

They have been sober for many years now, thank God!!

They say Dean Martin was an alcoholic, he acted like he was too, and you always saw him with a drink. There is also the comedian Ron White who is with Jeff Foxworthy who drinks on stage and is quite famous now.

Jim Morrison was so drunk at some of their concerts (so I'm told, a few years before my concert going time) that he just slurred through every song, and he's a legend. Pretty much most rock stars qualify as well I imagine.

More currently, I'm thinking of Mel "What are you lookin at Sugar Tts?" Gibson.
