***Step 1-find the slope (rise over run)
(7-5)/(2-1)--> 2/1-->2
now that you know the slope is two...
***Step 2-plug in what you know into the point slope formula which is...
(y-y1)=m(x-x1)
choose either (1,5) or (2,7) to enter for Y1 and X1
in this case i'll do the (1,5)
y-5=2(x-1)
y-5=2x-2
***step 3-isolate "y"
y-5=2x-2
y=2x-2+5 (add 5 to both sides of the equation)
y=2x+3 (simplify)
and now you have your answer y=2x+3

Ok first you need to plot these points. Now you can probably see that it is a linear equation. This means that it follows the rule of:
y = mx + c. In this equation, the gradient equals M and the y-intercept is c (the point which this line would cross the y-axis if you drew the whole thing). Now M is:
(Y2 - Y1)/(X2 - X1). In (1,5) let 1 = X1 and 5 = Y1. In (2,7) let 2 = X2 and 7 = Y2. This means M = (7-5)/(2-1) which equals 2. Now using the gradient say that 2 = (y-5)/(x-1), in which case 2(x-1) = y-5. So 2X - 2 = Y-5 therefore Y = 2X + 3. you can also use 7 and 2 for this part if you want. Oh and to find the gradient you can also say (5-7)/(1-2).

let (x1,y1)=(1,5) and (x2,y2)=(2,7)
equationof line passing through (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is
y-y1=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) *(x-x1)
y-5=(7-5)/(2-1) *(x-1)
y-5=2/1 *(x-1)
y-5=2(x-1)
y-5=2x-2
2x-y+3=0
