I liked the movie, and I get a little bored with the critics picking on Shamalayan's movies. He's an iconoclast and doesn't play by Hollywood's rules, so they beat him up for it.
I love the sense of courage in the film. The young leading characters both face fear in ways that are really inspiring. The older characters have run away from what they fear and though they've created something really wonderful, they maintain it through manipulating the fears of the community and it comes back to haunt them.
I don't mind knowing the ending when I watch the film. I love the scene between Ivy and the character played by Joaquin Phoenix on the porch. I also love the dialogue written for Ivy's character. It has a strength and humor to it that isn't that common for young female characters--it's refreshing.

I loved it, I'm so sick of these generic, predictable movies, Horror and romantic comedy especially. The ending was so unexpected. Most people don't like it because they go to see a movie and expect to be wowed by gore and special effects not character drama with wider implications like society and our "evolution."
But it is true, M. Night Shamalayan's movies are kind of a one viewing deal.

The only reason I liked it is that I am a Joaquin Phoenix fan. Other than that I did not care for it, and the end was not surprising to me at all - same with the end in The Sixth Sense.

I did see the movie, and I bought it too....I loved it!!!
When we (my husband, me and a friend of ours) saw the movie at the theater our friend just didn't get it....he was stuck on the date that was on the headstone in the very beginning of the movie.
Great movie though...I love M. Night Shamalayan.

no way, it totally sucked. I mean in the trailer you get the feeling it'a totally thrilling horror movie, and then you wait the length of the whole movie for something to happen and nothing really does. Really lame.

I loved it the first time I watched it. But you can't watch it more than once! I love watching movies over and over. So I was a little disappointed in the ending.

I understood it, but I thought it was a rip off because instead of people running around in red costumes, I actually wanted them to be real monsters!!! So It was kind of boring!!!
