I heard that there is a carburator out there that can get crazy MPG but the oil companies bought the patent to halt production. Fact or fiction?

Fiction. Fuel injectors are way for efficient than any carb that was ever made, and gas millage still is what it is. want good millage? buy a datsun B 210, 38 mpg highway
