I hear you. I am a person with morals which in America people refer to as "tightwads" or "prudes".

I don't know what to tell you. I'm an American and I'm in America right now. Since I've always been an American, how could I feel like someone else? I don't always like what Americans do in the name of politics or how they look down their noses at foreigners, nor do I care for most of the domestic policies. But I'm not about to emigrate to another country either. It's fun to go on holiday to other countries but we really do have it made here.

I also feel very out of place here, especially in the town I live in.

It would be nice to move to British Columbia, Canada; or even the U.K., but that's just not an option for me right now.

In gradeschool my daughter was forced to perform the pledge of allegiance. I think that's strange, considering this is supposed the be the "Land of the Free". Just for all of you that think I'm horrible, I would never have said anything to the school, and anyway now in High School they don't say it at all.

Happy New Year everyone!

Sometimes I feel pretty out of place. I had a host at a Thai restaurant tell me one day that her boss wanted to teach her to speak Thai, and her response was "Why would I want to learn another language? I speak American just fine!" I could only cringe, and yet sadly, that's a very common attitude here. Little wonder so many non-US folk think we're all idiots. Speak American indeed.

I feel pretty at home with my Mexican friends though. Mi gusta tamales y cervesa!
