a) basic dumb animal instinct to show alpha dominance unfortunately being played out on a large scale with overly efficient weapons. (george bush's motivation to punish Saddam for insults vs his dad. I doubt george ever lost any sleep about the Kurds before the war, it just helps illustrate his personal motivation)

b) a scientific need to test new weapons that very rich investors and your leaders have spent years and decades and billions developing each year, so they can continue showing off and attracting new sponsors so the owner can get more swimming pools, islands and personal supermodel/hookers. Because face it, its just fun to see big explosions for certain people.

c) a blatent grab for resources (oil, gold, lumber, diamonds, food, water are the current popular ones.) when someone inconvieniently doesnt want to deal/roll over and play dead when dishonest 'business' leaders (mafia members who control your government) encounter difficulty convincing landowners that losing their home, property/ access to the resource for personal use for whatever scheme ie planting 'natural oil' trees on their land by chopping down all the other plants (Indonesia) or strip mining for diamonds is helpful for them. Ie not wanting to cut a fair deal that helps them or being willing to invest in technologically safe, healthy and renewable resources.

d) The underlying message in most forms of media that you watch as you develop that often simplify conflict resolution to 'good- guy' violently whacking 'bad-guy' as the only solution.

e) no ism exists. its all just basic thug instinct. Big words are there to help 'smart' people justify why they can act like monkeys and to pretend they know better than the rest of us why they can be big apes that force others to do what they need.

f) if you didnt get the gist yet- we are all dumb *** monkeys who need to get our asses kicked to create 'civilization' as we know it. without 'discipline' there would be no society. If you didnt fear getting your *** kicked why else would most of you pay bills and sit and take it when some dumb monkey decides he wants your house/business/toy.

think about when the Europeans said they were spreading civilization in the new world. Partially true, but mostly for the profit mercantilism brought in. The US fights to spread democracy, but often its own interests at the same time, fighting when it's convenient for the country. It might support one side and not the other simply because that side would give the most resources, which means a stronger economy and more money for the government. The country has a history of gunboat diplomacy.

Mothers will be mothers. They love their children, try to teach them well, and will put themselves in harm's way to protect their beloved offspring.
There is one major difference between Cleo and other mothers; Cleo lives in the Atlantic Ocean. She is a dolphin.

It has been said that regardless of what species a mother belongs to, she is still just as loving, caring, and protective as those of other species. Dolphins are no different.

economics and religious purposes. you can't convince a government that freedom of religion is a good thing, if the government is being run by a religious person who doesn't want to allow freedom of religion. While at the same time, it is real hard to bring about globalism, when you have such large masses of land, that are dominated by governments that don't want any part of it.

Self delusion. I think GWB had rarely considered foreign policy issues before he was elected. He was handed this grand neo con theory of the world and he bought it. He was manipulated. When the sad reality began to intrude, he retreated into denial. Bob Woodward says something like this in his book, "State of Denial"

We fight to defend our interests around the world. We, as a soverign nation, should be able to engage in international commerce. There are those who wish us harm and feel free to attack American interests around the world and that's just not right. I say that it's a good thing that we promote and defend our own interests first. If Muslims continue attacking Americans around the world, it's in our best interests to put a stop to it by military action.
