Mahatma Gandhi. That's when India was a part of the British Commonwealth and had no patience for the Indian non-violent movement. In many cases, "justice" was administered in the countryside by beatings, shootings in mass numbers by the British. But, in front of a judge chosen by the Viceroy of India, Gandhi was imprisoned many times for contempt.
