It is not in the main window of the add/remove, but in windows components option.
You can also disable it from starting at bootup in
start > run (type msconfig) , press ok > click on startup tab > Locate and uncheck messenger > click ok, click close , click restart> after restart check the box in a window that appears, press ok.

The problem is that if you use outlook it will always launch it no matter how you have it configured. I'm suspecting this is the problem you're having. If not, then just follow the advice already given.

open up ms messenger, click on i think preferences or options. one of the other. i think its under the general tab, there is an option u uncheck that says something like "start when windows starts" and "run in the background of windows"

bypass into administration panel, upload/remove, to the right area you'll see some thing that asserts residing house windows elements, click it, from there you uncheck residing house windows messenger, click ok, restart the computing gadget and your good to bypass.
