Your company front-end will most likely be protected by a VPN if it allows access from remote locations. You obviously need to find out what the requirements are.
They will use IPSEC and/or SSL VPN security encryption protocols.
If IPSEC, then it will most likely be a Citrix type front end that requires your client to have VPN software on it like CISCO VPN Client 4.1 You supply the company provided info into your VPN Client security policy and then use a connection manager to start a session on the server.
If it is an SSL, then you will use your browser to initiate the authentication using https. You will most likely be connected to a Citrix web hosted session.
You may be required to have further security permissions to gain access, including the issue and use of a public key generator.

If your company network allows it, you will need to type in the IP address AND the port that is set for that log-in. Simply putting in the IP address will not work. This will only work if your company has set their network to allow external connections via an IP address through a specific port. E.G. 192.168.1.1:8080.
