Why did the Jews get compensation for the Holocaust but blacks got nothing for slavery?

Why did the Jews get millions of dollars and a whole country because of the Holocaust but blacks got nothing when the two events happened within 60 years of each other? Even native americans got broken down reservations and some money and Japan got their country rebuild but blacks got squat? You can't count welfare or anything because they only make up 10% of the whole U.S. black population.

As demanded that the White southerns deserved to be brought back to it's former glory. As the war was not about slavery but the retaining of States who thought they could leave. in the case of the Jewish people, Japanese and Native Americans, they were given back what was originally taken. they weren't compensated. It's like if someone grabbed your wallet, then tossed you into a hellish prison. then later someone else came and was like "sorry about that, we caught the guy, here's your wallet back"

black slaves came to this country with nothing. for their efforts in the war against the south, they were given their freedom. promises were made to some about land, but was not followed through. some slaves did obtain their previous owners' land. others did not. some blacks weren't slaves and thus deserved nothing. some blacks were slave owners, and again, deserved nothing. however, during reconstruction blacks were doing pretty well. it is what came after that, that was devastating- towns being burned down, homes, churches. therefore, the many that did see compensation for their efforts later saw it burned to the ground by others.

I've never thought of that before. Here in Australia aborigines do get some land rights and payments, but there is still much to be accounted for, such as the stolen generation, when black babies were taken away from their mothers and put into white familes. All I can say is that it does seem unfair.

You can not compare what happened to Native Americans to what happened to the people now referred to as African Americans. Yes you guys were used as farm equipment and other labor machines, but what the Native Americans experienced was out and out genocide. The only groups that can claim to remotely understand what this would be the Jews, Gypsies and other of Hitler's undesirables that endured the Holocaust. And even they can't because their suffering was rather short compared to the Native Americans. At least they wanted to keep the slaves reasonably healthy and alive to work. Natives were purposely killed off by gun and disease. Ever heard of small pox blankets? These were part of the US Government rations to the Natives after they rounded them up off of their land, and everything they had was taken. They would include in the rations disease contaminated supplies to help rid themselves to the "nuisance" of the "Indian".

So I guess to answer your question Jews of the Holocaust got paid because an International Tribunal determined the atrocities so heinous as to warrant reparation. Interestingly enough it doesn't even touch the wealth stolen from the concentration camp internees. Hell, Swiss banks were in the news about 6 years ago because of all of these accounts opened by the Nazis that hadn't been claimed. The gold bars in the vaults were made from melting down their stolen jewelry and TEETH!

Well millions of people died for no reason whatsoever in the Holocaust and many of them are still alive and remember that horrible event!! its sad for you to think that money will bring back all the suffering of these people because I think they would rather have the family they lost back than any amount of money they receive.
