My ex makes a lot of money (and doesnt pay support) but bribes my oldest son who is 8 with video games, money, etc. He never gave him the time of day before but is now trying to get custody because he doesnt wan to pay support. I am flat broke and cant afford to give my son these things and now he is wanting to move with his dad. His dad has drug and alcohol problems which is very hard to prove. I am just afraid that my son telling the court he wants to live with him may effect the judges decision and my kids lives would be ruined if they lived with their dad as would mine. My son is being brainwashed. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd reccomend bringing all of this to the attention of the judge, and I'd also reccomend that you might want to get yourself some help from a social service agency. Your son is going to need help to figure out what is going on, and I don't think you would be the best person to break the news to him and he might not listen to you at this point anyway. If other adults see that your ex sets a rather poor example by way of lifestyle choices, you're more likely to get what is best for your son. Definitly play an active role here, but try to stay "out of hte limelight" as much as possible.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.

<>The bigger question here is- Why doesn't the father pay any child support? He makes a "lot of money" but pays nothing for the upkeep of his child? Go to court and demand child support. Paying it (or dodging the police for not paying it) should keep him out of your hair. Oh, and alimony? Does he pay that? And medical insurance? And dental insurance? You should be able to heap enough on him that he will not have time (or money) for "bribes."
