The real question should be why did you feel the need to be in a gang in the first place.
A real test of character is being your own person and not giving into peer group pressure. A strong individual can stand alone, and be happy, a weak person is one that needs constant reinforcement from others.
Walk tall, walk straight and look the world right in the eye, that's what my father told me when I was about knee-high. Always be a proud man and hold you head up high. These are values to aim for, that will not let you down.
Be a man and take control of your own life, don't talk about it, do it.

Yes, you will most likely end up in a bad place if you keep hanging out with your gang friends. If you are really considering it. Make sure to move out of the area and lose all contact with them. Start over, and make it good this time. Life is too short to do the wrong thing twice.

But the answer is yes, you should get out. Wait until you go to prison and see how many of your homies actually come to visit you on a steady basis. If you're looking for camaraderie you should join a sports team.

You can get out now or wait until you go to prison. You buddies on the outside will forget about you when you get to prison. You should check out some of the shows on prison on MSNBC or CourtTv and decide if prison is what you want for your life. How prould will your mother be to see your picture on the front page of the paper with "Life in Prison" plastered above your head?
