Unlike tennis, football, volleyball, hockey etc etc, in cricket you have one team entirely seated while the opposite team plays. Secondly, unless the ball comes to the fielder, he's a dummy on the field. Unless the ball comes to the batsman, he again can play endlessly without being out. Sometimes (most of the times) most of the players dont get a chance to play if a player doesnt get out. So, is it right to call Cricket a sport at all? or is it a stupid game as Shaw says, "Cricket - a game which eleven fools play and elevnthousand fools watch."

As an American, where Cricket is rarely uttered in any circumstance, other than speaking of a bug, I have tried to understand the sport. I spent 2 months in India, and all they showed on tv was cricket. It seemed to go on endlessly. And while a bit like baseball (another sport I don't quite understand the fascination with), it goes on for days and days sometimes. I respect the fact the some say it is one of the best sports around. Maybe one day I will understand why. But at this point....I can't be bothered.

It all boils down to the individual person, you find that most cricket supporters have played the sport at some time or another. This gives the supporter a greater understanding of the game and also a personal satisfaction. I personally find cricket a bit boring especially the 5 day test matches, but I do enjoy watching the 1 day tests or limited overs games. The sport is followed with passion in many different parts of the world so who are we to judge? If it is not your cup of tea don't watch.............

Everyone has different tastes. Just because someone doesn't like cricket, doesn't mean they are stupid. I don't like celebrity watching, I'm not a film buff, I find American Football deathly dull, and discussions about fiscal policies leave me cold. I'm not stupid, and I doubt many of the people who are into those things are. Each to their own, which is what makes the world a richer place. It would be a boring place indeed if we all had the same interests.

Cricket deserves no respect.... Never ending games... fake countries playing (try finding "west indies" as a country on the world map).... too many parameters to determine the winner (overs, runs, wickets and all stupid stuff).... a cricket freak nation like India.... cricket being the ONLY reason why insignificant countries like Kazakstan win many more medals than India in olympic games... all the british aristocracy associated with cricket... it all is disgusting.

It all depending upon the likes and dislikes of the game. Those who are cricket crazy, cricket is never a boring game and they are prepared to pay huge amount and watch the match all the 5 days. However, those who are not fond of cricket, they may feel it as a boring game and watching the game is a waste of time.

You are absolutely right, my friend but it would be a bit unfair to call it a stupid game. There are many better sports than cricket but cricket ain't a foolish game.

yeah i used to HATE cricket when i was younger...it was so boring for me and i didn't understand a n y t h i n g . but once i started learning about it I LOVE IT NOW!!!! hehe, its not a high adrenaline sport through out the whole game, it takes alot of patience but the rewards certainly pay off. the only way to really get into it is to tart going for a team and to want them to win, so that way ur just not sitting theree not really careing who wins, i can only watch when australia is playing cause thats so i go for :)

I maintain that if GOLF can pass as a sport, then surely cricket can.
One cannot but help draw parallels to the Emperor's new clothes when the spectating crowd tries to see where a ball, slightly smaller than my left nut, flies and lands.

If u go to watch live game, it is a nice day outing where u can just sit and drink beer, look at all the woman in skimpy clothes, sleep and relax and then there is bit of cricket to watch. The one day game is pretty good and exciting to watch, especially when it is a close match. I enjoy it,but wont watch it all the time.
