Do most blacks realize that white people fought and died for their freedom from slavery?

So many blacks hate all whites thinking that white people made them slaves, but they don't seem to know that white people fought in the civil war and thousands died to end slavery.
My ancestors died in the civil war on the side of the north and some dumb black girl was cussing me out for being white and making blacks people slaves!

You need to go back and re-read your history books. Although slavery did end because of the Civil War, that is NOT why it was fought. It was fought because the south wanted to secede from the Union.

So, why should white people get credit for ending slavery? That was not even the point of the war.

I have found that every race has racists. I have found that I work with many black racists. Some feel that all whites owned slaves when the reality was that most whites were just as poor as the blacks of the era. Some feel that they are owed something by me because I am white. Most make the same amount or more money than I do, but due to mismanagement are always "broke" and complain that it's because they're black that they're being held down. Reality is that I choose to drive a Honda Civic while they drive a Cadillac Escalade. I choose to save my money instead of having my nails done and hair extensions added every week. There are also dumb whites that complain about blacks and the "problems" that they seem to cause. On the other hand, there are blacks and whites where I work that get along just fine without any racial tension. The fact of the matter is that you have dumb and racist people in every race. It's probably going to be that way for quite some time to come, if not forever. All you can do is treat people equally and educate them whenever able.

It is really a shame when people can't separate you from your forefathers. Living in the south, there are still many who fly the confederate flag. The south fought to keep blacks enslaved and to separate from the Union. Bitterness still exist for that and for the most recent act of hatred: Jim Crow Law. Whites denied blacks their constitutional rights for more that a century after slavery ended. Some have a hard time forgiving.

What I do know is that like Martin Luther King said, you should not be judged by the color of your skin but by the content of your character, even if your skin is white.

The civil war was never fought to free slaves. It was fought to preserve the union which was fracturing under a tariff system that seemed to favor the industrialized states in the North.

To get away from legislation that spelled economic doom for the traditional industries in the south, the Southern states voted to secede.

The issue of liberating slaves was propaganda to achieve moral high ground and hopefully incite rebellion from within the Southern states. I seriously doubt that a working white dude in New York thought more highly of black slaves than a typical southern hick.

So maybe we should take a little more effort to understand black angst against people who still insist on calling them 'dumb'.

well in truth, the union did not just wake up one day and say "Well we feel sorry for blacks, so we are going to fight to end slavery". If the confederacy had just industralized like the union wanted them to then there would have been no civli war and blacks would still be slaves today. so whites may have fought and died to Inudustralize thier country, but it wasnt to end slavery.

Do you realise how many millions of Blacks died? There have estimates of upwards of 100 million..

The War Between the States was not about slavery. Lincoln never freed anyone and didn't make it an issue until three years into the war. Read your history.

Do blacks realise they are still enslaved by the white man.

White men fight for white freedom and the freedom to enslave blacks.

Token whites in the white house and in the movies dont make blacks free. Check your jails and do the count man!
