I'm not an expert at early childhood ed but I work with a few teachers who work with children of this age. Frequently I hear them talking to parents about how to help their children. They key at this age is communication skills. Talk to your child in complete sentences and always encourage verbal responses instead of nodding or pointing or making noises. Ask questions about things. Walk through the grocery store and says silly stuff like "oooh look at these bananas. Bananas are yellow." Kids need to learn shapes and sizes and colors, and get as much vocabvulary as they can before they enter school. That willpave the way for them to learn literacy skills. It's excellent that you want to work with your child but it's important to know what skills he or she is developmentally ready for. You cant rush into teaching reading too early. It doesnt matter how good of a job you do; if the child isnt ready, it wont happen.

Good luck. I hope this helped.

Talk to your child as much as possible. Also read to your child daily. At this age you want to develop all of your child's skills. Children are naturally curious observe your child to see what (s)he is interested in. Preschoolprintables.com, www.dltk-kids.com - are a few of my favorites. Make your own posters with your child, you can cut up old magazines or draw the posters. This will be more fun for your child. I've always found great things for my classroom at resell stores. Do a lot of hands on things. Children love play dough, sand, goop, anything they can run their hands through and manipulate.
