Actually, no. There's plenty of research and testing to prove this. The conscious mind can only hold one thought at a time. However, the conscious mind works very quickly, so because your thoughts can come in rapid succession, sometimes it feels like you can think more than one at a time. But no, only one at a time is possible.
However, if you're including the UNCONSCIOUS mind (which is not really thoughts, per se), then yes, our brain can do a multitude of different FUNCTIONS at the same time. But again, i repeat, you can only think one conscious THOUGHT at a time (which is one of those many functions).

The brain is made up of an entire network of electrical impulses, all going to direct locations. It is completely 100% POSSSIBLE to think two things at once because you must remember all of the involuntary signals to which your brain controls. There's heart contractions, breathing, blinking, digestion, none of these you have to think: 'breathe NOW', 'blink NOW!' The brain thinks of it constantly for you.
That aside, what about multi-tasking? A person can be driving while eating a burger AND be talking on their cell phone at the same time. These are all thoughts that the brain must organize and coordinate to facilitate the body.
So yes, many MANY thoughts are constantly being sorted within the mind.

I can concentrate on words or like a thought in what I call the front of my head. But back there as I say I think my real thoughts. I'm so paranoid that I do this a lot. I'm afraid that someone will read my true thoughts otherwise.

Of course you can. In fact the opposite would be more of an amazing feat. Being able to focus on just one thought at a time is much more amazing than having many thoughts simultaneously.
Hypnotherapists work hard to get a person to be able to think just one thought at a time and when they suceed, they have hypnotised the person sucessfully.

Try this. Start singing a tune in your head. Try something simple but that you know very well. (Roses are red, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, etc) Then pick up a paper and see if you can read while you are humming. Make sure that you are recognizing and understanding what you read while you are still singing in your head. So, I guess my answer is yes.

I would bet a woman could. They are supposed to be better at muli-tasking than men. If men could do that, we would never get in trouble when we watch TV and pay no attention to the Mrs.

From my own personal experience it is possible. It was just as two people were talking at the same time but instead it is yourself, hard to explain...
