I normally put no stock in dream interpretation, but just for fun, what would you all say to this?
I had this dream once that I looked into a mirror. When I saw myself, I noticed a large swollen area around my face. As I inspected my face, I realized that my face was falling off. My skull had actuall broken apart, and my face was trying to fall off. I kept trying to hold it on, but I couldn't get it back in place. I woke up before anything else happened.

As far as I remember from school,everything physical in a dream translates to psychical or to mental in a dream.It should be telling you that in some way you are "loosing" your real face(or your head) in your real life(maybe you don't do what you want to do,maybe you have a job you pretend you like but you don't,maybe you act a way you don't really want to act but you have to..).By the way,this is called "big" dream,people don't have those very often,good you asked about the meaning.
Head breaking apart..I'd say you are trying to do many things at the same time,try to make everybody happy and not refuse anyone...Too much things for one head to handle.Dream just tell you to pick up your right face,the right way,make right choices and not to worry what the others will think of it.

have you had a major loss recently that is affecting your sense of self and/or self-confidence? Are you feeling very stressed out or mentally drained? Did you ever experience any type of head trauma.
Maybe there are some changes in your life and you're having trouble adapting to them so you are fighting this new path, which may reveal deeper things about you that you are afraid of.

hmmm...I say that you're not sure about your identity. Maybe you're trying to find out who you are and its not quite working.
