How do you get out of an unwanted conversation?

Bring the conversation to a halt with a completely irrelevant comment. Like if they won't stop talking about their Christmas, try "don't you just love edible wallpaper." That should buy you some time to exit the conversation.
Bonus points if you use a celebrity quote or movie line; "will you excuse me. I cut my foot earlier & my shoe is filling up with blood." or "Do I have a large frog in my hair? ... Something's crawling out of my scalp."

if you're feeling stuck, here are a few thoughts -

1. stop making eye contact. start to disengage.

2. or you can try to bring in another conversationalist. say hello to someone else. add another talker into the mix.
