For one thing, spammers could sign up for 300 accounts, leave them alone, then come back months later with all those spam questions.

I think it takes a little time to get accustomed to the site.

Plus, it helps to program the new users to consider their limited answers carefully, in hopes of getting an higher Best Answer percentage, and move up the levels by placing well thought out answers.

It is simply part of the Skinnerian programming we are all subjected to, like lab rats. It also protects the system.

Yes, I do remember being level one and running into limits for answers.

This is not the first site of its kind, I remember about 10 years ago when About dot Com had a similar site, but that never caught on like Y!A has. They did have unlimited questions and answers over there, but because they were not limited, neither the questions nor the answers were taken very seriously by a small subset of the users.

I think About still has that site, and much got through there that would have never made it here, but many of us left because of the personal abuse. I can still go check my history to review the death threats I received over the internet simply for citing facts and legitimate sources.
