it means that the university is modern (way of thinking, open minded, facilities e.g. computers, internet, etc.), but at the same time still holds traditional values and does not forget their roots or culture.

I don't know what you mean by "amity" but what it means to me is that tradition dies.

it means they have a mix of the old traditional and new modern ways of teaching etc.
