hang on there is one in my backyard now I'll go out and ask it........................................It stood on its tail and swung at me with all four paws.
I guess that is a no. Number five maybe.
Not all roos are that aggressive but this one had a bump on its head and wore a suit coat with what looked like a pay packet in its pocket.
Seriously kangaroos graze on all four ....well um...... legs. They can balance on their front legs and tail and move both hind legs at the same time. I have seen roo's without tails and they survive quite well. If you have ever had kangaroo tail soup you would know there is no leg bones in it. So it can't be a third leg because they usually have four for starters. Another useless fact for you they can't walk backwards.

It is still a tail. There are many small primates that have "prehensile" tails, and they will use their tail as an additional way to hang on while in trees. The tail is still the tail.
The kangaroo will use the tail as part of a "five legged" walking, from what I've read.

Technically speaking, no... But kangaroos will use their tail as a third leg in certain situations. For instance, if a males is fighting another male (for dominance over females), he may balance himself solely on his tale, why he thrusts both legs at his oppopent. Kangaroos have extremely powerful legs, and by balancing themselves on their tail in this manner, they are able to use that power to fight...
