Do you think american idol is still a little off target with finding what's in, is it a mistake to let the public choose.

The only time I watch American Idol is if I pass it by chance on TV, and even then I only stay there if it's during the first rounds where there are a bunch of f*ck-ups and losers who THINK they can sing... that is the ONLY time it's even semi-entertaining. Otherwise, I think the program is BS. Why? Who the hell actually respects someone who WON their contract in the music industry? They've got to work for years, not take some stupid shortcut to "the top." Anyway, the majority of America really doesn't care for the pop-ish musical talents of the contestants (at least not in the long run).

For example... Kelly Clarkson. There's a small minority of teen girls who think, "Ooh! I like her. She's cool." Then, there's the majority of the world that think, "You mean that American Idol girl? Naaah... I'll stick to MY music, thanks."

If we wanted "good singers" with great vocals like Kelly Clarkson and whoever else won, then we'd STILL be in the pop era with groups like N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys. THEY had "good vocals," too, but look what happened eventually! They died out, replaced with rock (yay!) and rap (... no comment).

There is just no way for a winner of American Idol to truly make a great impact like Tool or Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Nirvana... and it's even worse for a winner to attempt to transition to another genre of music. It just does not work. Once labeled pop, always viewed as pop. And I hate pop.

I liked American Idol when it first come on the air but now it has gotten old...although I still do like the auditions, especially the bad ones because they are hilarious. I think the only two American Idol winners that have any talent are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, even though they are not my type of music at least they can sing. Its basically just a popularity contest to see who America likes the most, not who can sing the best or perform the best. I do think it would be better just to let the judges pick the winner...especially Simon because I usually agree with him.

I never really kept up with it but I would have to say so, just look at Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia, clearly Jennifer was a better singer and shoud've had a record deal a long time ago. Taylor Hicks, what is he, like 50 or something.

i think the judges should choose out the bottom 3 at the end of each show. The public will vote based on this bottom 3 performance and hence, the one with lowest calls will be out.

this will ensure the good one will not be at the bottom 3 because of "blind" public voted for the prettier or handsome one.

i think the public is very diverse in music choices but the people who don't like pop music don't really watch American Idol. Luckily there are now shows for people who listen to country and shows for people who like rock music.

I think it's run its course. I mean really, have you even seen last year's winner since he won? I don't even remember his name! I just remember he has gray hair...

I think it was funny at first, because Simon is so rude and Paula was constantly high, but enough is too much...

Just my $0.02....

The viewer votes are taken into consideration, but they are NOT the final consideration.
