Yes, she did know the girl. The girl's picture she was looking for she knew! She totally stalked him because her friend disappeared.

I've never seen the movie, but i read up on it and i believe the reason she was torturing the guy bc he molested and raped other young girls and she wanted him to go through the pain that they went through.

I think she wanted to revenge the killing of the young girl, so she found the photographer and did him. Hayley was a sick individual herself. I don't think she was raped or anything like that.
