i sure hate this is an old comment because Elvis did steal some of the black Artist music some he got the rights by the artist but most he just recorded his own version such as his song Hound dog was orignally done by big moma thornton, and That's alright his first recorded song was originally done a few years earlier by Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup. Not to mention the many many songs he took from Chuck Berry.....Check the fact google it or check Wikipedia its all there.

I like Elvis in the movies but...I think chuck berry, little richard & Motown records were instrumental in getting r&b into the main stream. Record companies back then would steal african american artists songs and give white people the music, credit and future royalties. So elvis is not the only artist just the most obvious because he also stole his dance moves from african american artist as well. It kind of reminds me of milli vanilli remember them? they got sued for lip syncing a whole album of some other guys singing ??

I wouldn't say that he stole it, but he did get a lot of his inspiratiion from our culture. Elvis was known to visit the baptist churches and listen to the music. He was also known to listen to a lot of the Rhythm and Blues Music and it was no secret that he greatly admired the African Americans way of sound and dance. You could tell from his sound and his movements that he picked up a lot.

You cant just "steal" music from a black person.

Yeah, he got some influences from music which blacks tended to specialise in, such as the blues, but he didnt run up to a black guy on the street and slip out the card that said 'black people music', if that's what you were asking.

Elvis didn't steal anything. That's what musicians did back then. They rearly ever wrote their own music, they either took somebody else's song or a songwriter wrote the music. Elvis was inspried by black musicians, blues. He took their songs and made them his own, just has any other musician in the time.
