I'm looking for a way to get more HP. I need to waste my friend's junky Mustang... He's just getting all in my face about it, but I really don't think I can beat him unless I change something. I'm driving a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. Any suggestions??

Ok here goes... One you are driving an automatic Mitsubishi... i have one... Not an eclipse and in my opinion they are slow as piss! Sorry! If you had an eclipse GSX we would have something to work with... Dont use nitrous your gonna damage the sh*t outta your car that way! I wouldnt personally do it cause I think it is a waste of money but you could do an engine swap (which would be a waste of money) or turbo/supercharge! This is all going to cost you some loot since you want to do it the right way! Mustangs arent necessarly fast Ive beat a few of the old school v-6 models but lets look at the facts here... In most cases you are up against a v8 with your little lawn mower engine... 4 banger if your luck a v6 but I think your year is only a 4! Dont race on the street anyways... Ive seen some serious accidents with my close friends... Go to the track!

Get over it. Let the junky mustang be a little quicker. You could spend the rest of your days (and a heap of brass) trying to get your Eclipse "just a little quicker". That would make you the Loser who drives that hotted up 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
A junky 95 mustang won't last that long being raced regularly. Wait until your mate blows the thing up. You'll be able to waste it with a pushbike then.

If you have to hop up to beat a 95 Mustang then you're horribly slow. And lord it better be a V8, cause if you're having problems with the V6, well, just give it up and enjoy your car.

Mid 90's Mustangs are f'n turds.

the problem is that you have a GS and not a GSX,i use to own one,i had hks intake, straight pipes and a computer chip, that was enough. when i was half way to the finish line, mustangs were still burning rubber at the starting line. about nitrous,if you are thinking about it you should rebuild the engine and make it proper,if not you could melt the pistons

devoid of going with an more advantageous engine, like the 5.7L (350) techniques for aftermarket alterations are extensive. Now, sticking with your 305, you are able to out kit him at somewhat low fee. Bolt on overall performance alterations could be accomplished yet they gained't internet you lots noticeable HP. an entire unfastened flowing exhaust gadget which consists of headers, chilly air intake, and a custom track is viable for sort of $1K. it may desire to (could desire to) upload a stable 15-20hp on the dyno. you are able to desire to no longer think of it truly is lots besides the undeniable fact that that's a stable initiate. an more advantageous throttle physique can upload some HP, alongside with working synthetic oils as synthetics 'liberate' HP that's otherwise lost to friction. understanding your chum has a three.31 rear axle in his Mustang, that's the greater elementary axle ratio. 3.fifty 5 grow to be non-compulsory in a kit besides the undeniable fact that it is not noticeable diverse. locate out what your axle ratio is. in case you're prepared to sacrifice some gas financial gadget and suitable velocity then you definately can throw in a 4.10 tru trac axle for sort of $750-800 put in. in case you wanted off the line overall performance a 4.fifty six axle can provide you gusto, yet you will devour in the time of the gas on the line simply by fact the engine will turn around 2600-2900rpm in suitable kit at 65mph, assuming you have the instruction manual transmission. the vehicle will turn truly bigger rpm on your twelve months of camaro. I had a 305 in a 1990 C1500, and it placed out a paltry 175hp. once I further decrease gears (4.fifty six, from the three.seventy 3) city mileage grow to be more advantageous and it 'felt' like I had gained a very good 20-30hp. i did no longer adjust the rest. because it grow to be RWD i wanted some traction interior the wintry climate, open differential is the worst for off the line overall performance, or snow using so I threw in a tru trac for $580 (in 2003) and it grow to be night and day distinction.

WELLL unless you spend some serious cash you just aren't going to beat him and then if he spends 1/5th of the cash hopping up his Stang that you spend on your Eclipse you still won't beat him. for less than 10K you can start from scratch and build a 7 second mustang. You can put 30K into an ecplise and you" MIGHT!!!" be in the 10 second range---NOTE emphasis on MIGHT.

Of course you can nitrous it, put a blower on it, or any number of things. No matter what you do, there will always be SOMEONE that's faster than you. I'll bet my camaro will tear your buddies mustang up. I KNOW my buddies vette tears my car up. Just enjoy your car.
