The best way to understand digestion (I think) is to realize that complex chemicals (proteins, complex carbs and fats) must be broken down into small enough pieces to be absorbed into digestive tract (in order to use to make E and structures the cell needs).

Secretion begins in mouth with salivary amylase (begins to break down sugars), followed by secretion of bile and HCl in stomach, more bile in beginning of small intestine along with bicarbonate to neutralize acid from stomach.

For a more explicit explanation, see source.

salivary glands secrete saliva, which contains an enzyme called ptyalin. it digests starch into maltose.
the stomach glands secrete gastric juice, which is a mixture of HCL, pepsin (a protein-digesting enzyme), gastric lipase, and mucus.
liver secretes bile, which contains bile pigments & bile salts.. bile is stored in the gall bladder.
pancreas secretes pancreatic juice, which contains trypsin (protien-digesting enzyme) and pancreatic amylase (which breaks down starch)..
in the duodenum (beginning of small intestine), 3 imp. things take place:
1. bile emulsifies fat;
2. trypsin digests proteins and pancretic amylase breaks down the starch;
3. bicarbonate ions secreted by the duodenal wall make the medium alkaline. an alkaline medium is required for the action of pancreatic enzymes.
then theres some intestinal juice called 'succus entericus' which completes the digestion of protiens to amino acids, carbohydrates into glucose, and fats into fatty acids & glycerol.

hope that helps!!!!!!!!

when we eat food,the salivary gland secretes saliva into our mouth.the food goes through our oesophagus and through a process called peristalsis it reaches our stomach.In our stomach,the gastric glands release gastric juices and these juices contain Hcl and enzyme pepsin.They help to digest the food.Then the food reaches our small intestine.and on the way even the Liver and pancreas secrete juices like the Bile juice by liver.

digestion is breakin comlex structure in easy stucture so body cell can absorb it
4 this secretion occurs
the food which we take is a complex structure so to break this many enzymes n chemicals r secreted frm body
they break them into protein glucose vitamins etc
