should be the world's anthem:-

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
Nowhere below us
Above only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Well, i've heard better songs. Imagine is just one of those those things that people say they like, just because everyone else does. In my opinion the song has been played to death and is far too earnest and 'head in the clouds' for me. 'Imagine no possessions?' - they guy was a freaking millionaire, did he give it all away? I think not.

Lennon omitted his personal last line:
'Imagine all the royalties,
which I will never live to spend.'

Lennon, like some many of his contemporaries wrote and sung political songs that would appeal to the naive generation and earn him a vast fortune.

Read the words and realise they have as much reality as a fairy tale written for five year old children.

It is a great song but does the world need an Anthem?
If there are little green men would they understand our music or would it sound like a Chinese Karaoke festival?

I'm a dreamer too. I love that song.

I don't interpret it as saying that all countries, religions, and possessions are bad, but that things would be so much better in the world he wishes for.

I have to say no. It's OK as a song but if you actually examine the lyrics (no countries, no religion, no possessions etc) it could be argued that what the song is actually asking for is a Communist society.

No, I would hope not. The song has a beautiful melody, but the lyrics? Although Lennon was a talented man, these words were written by a socialist pothead.
Hitler was an atheist and wanted to see a one world/new world order too...
