While watching American choppers on TV I noticed the guys cutting sheet metal with a cutting disc, without a safety guard, the disc did not jam or catch like the old abrasive discs do, does anyone know what these cutting discs are ?

they're called razor blades, they'll cut thru metal very quick. i use them often at work. running these without a safety guard isnt a good idea, it will cause a severe laceration in a split second.

I don't know what they are made from. They sell them at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, and probably any other hardware store. The discs are either 4" or 4.5" and are made for cutting metal. I have one of those grinders and the safety guard is a bit of a pain in the asss.

It's a grinding disc attached to a high speed tool such as Dremel makes. They always wear safety glasses though, which surprises me for that bunch of disfunctional misfits.

We use them at work, and call them a CRATEX (more of a brand name than a description) wheel. You can cut through a hardened shackle of a padlock in a heartbeat with these.

Dosen`t matter what disc it is, ALWAYS WEAR SAFTY GEAR, the disc they use run at 10,000 + rpms. Thats why it dont jam.
