The pardoning of Richard Nixon and bringing back some of the trust that had been lost in the office of the president. He was a good decent man, which is what we needed at the time.

I remember him as an end to the "National Nightmare", as he called it, of the Nixon era...and that he seemed to be a choice that both parties could accept. His wife Betty was an outspoken woman compared to his calm gentle manner. I respected her a lot for some of the programs she supported, and suspect she had a strong influence on Ford's policies as well.

Good question! I think there are a lot of people on yahoo answers who weren't even alive when Ford was president. I will remember most his pardon of Nixon, but also Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme's attempt on his life.

He was an honest man who believed in God, family and country. He took on a great responsibility and he did a great job. He made the country feel safe again and regain faith in our country and government. He was quiet, unassuming, and well mannered. He spoke with a soft, yet firm voice. I think he had great humility for his job as president. May God bless his family as they mourn a great husband, father, and president. And as for giving Nixon a pardon, I think this showed how compassionate he was. Nixon was a brilliant man, but did wrong. It is not for us to judge him. I think Mr. Ford should be admired for doing this, it shows us how to forgive.

Besides pardoning Nixon, I'll remember President Ford as very down-to-earth and as a man who wasn't afraid to be seen as ordinary. I remember he was very clumsy and was reported to have fallen down alot. Chevy Chase even parodied him in skits on Saturday Night Live. He remains one of my favorite presidents in my lifetime.

Two things. The first would be his pardon of Nixon. The second is the sight of him tripping down the stairs of Air Force One.

he took the reigns of the US in an extremely volatile time..Watergate, Inflation, Vietnam War, Political Unrest...I admire him because he pardoned Nixon...an act so despised at the time but he knew the country needed to heal..many pundits have since said that it was the appropriate thing to do
