if British had failed, then others would have did maybe... What would have changed except language if it was french or else? The reason of success of British on that time layed in political division of india, shared by greedy leaders and folk ignoring patriotism coz they were barely more than servant of those masters... If the division was there, others than british could do same their own way...
British did bad of course but it has one consequence nobody can deny: after them India was really united and it changes everything! Otherwise India would be still full of quarelling nabab, sultan and rajah and still divided like Europe.
Invasion showed indian they have more in common than what separate them.

The French would have done. The first man to get the idea that the Europeans could rule in India was the Frenchman Dupleix - a statesman who was no soldier; outsmarted by Robert Clive, the soldier who was also a statesman.
Oh dear! All that crap about exploitation! Oh dear! 'You stole the tea from India' - sorry, we BROUGHT the tea TO India!!
British textile exports from Lancashire undercut the native Indian industry - but the Indians had more money to spend on other things, and some of them spent it on weaving machinery - where is Lancashire's textile industry now?
India is the world's largest democracy - where did that idea come from?

Yup, India would have been better off. If India wasn't conquered by the British, then we wouldn't be having Bangladesh and Pakistan as then they were a part of India and because of the British Pakistan and Bangladesh came into existence. We would be the richest country in the world because then the British wouldn't have stolen our gems and valuable stuff and robbed us of our wealth. they wouldn't say that the Kohinoor diamond is theirs. we would be following our customs and traditions. Well, the list goes on.......

What if? Who knows who would have conquered who?
The fact is the British werent the first ones. Nowadays everyone has their countries and they still only progressed as far as technology and not even then. To each their own. I dont know about anyone else but their hygenic habits did not improve. Their starving people and those Bulls? They still live in a third world civilization and their water systems? come on. And no they would not ever have been as powerful as the US ever because of their religious beliefs as well as their lack of knowledge in technology.

Then the evolution to modern age would have taken a different rout for both Indian subcontinent and Britain. The wealth from India and other colonies halped build Briatin at the cost of delaying true progress at the colonies.

then india would have been as economically progressed like UK and USA. but at the same time it would be the india following old customs and traditions. the same ones which we do not have accepted in this modern india.

and yes one more thing india would not have been partitioned and it would be a country with pak, myanmar and bangladesh combined together.

and yes we wont have been studying the indian hist nor we would have got our heroes like gandhiji, bhagatsingh, etc.

Then someone else would have done that, if not the British, May be the French. May be the Portuguese, or may be none. Whatever, we would still be chewing paan instead of eating Hamburgers.

Let answer your question with another question, what if ghandi converted to Christianity, i guess we will never know, only speculate on present and past events, huh, to me"What If?" is a sign of incompetance and ignorance, meaning we are so busy thinking "What if?" that we forget about the future, leaving to the future asking our selves "What if?". The fact of the matter is that we should be asking "What Now?" and using the past as a tool to fix the future so we wouldn't ask "What if?". This is why there are so much high school dropout asking that question when their own fate was in their hands. My advice is don't think "What if?", but question "What Now?"
