I have four children and made some good purchases and some bad ones.

Good- Cosmic Catch (Fun and inexpensive)
PS3 (Expensive, yet fun)
Heelys
Bad- Bratz sewing machine (constantly needs to be rethreaded)
Moon shoes-(my son twisted his ankle within the first minute)

Heroscape for my son (fun and customizable, just a bit too time consumining to set up)

bad, PSP, I just haven't had much fun with it (was bought for me)

and sorry, but I must say, I find those danged heelys shoes so ever annoying, just had the misfortune of picking my teenage daughter up from the mall and there were at least a half dozen little brats gliding around the overcrowded mess and their parents could really care less. no offense intended twds you or any assumption that you would be like those parents, gawd i would hope not

My Husband bought a Wii and we brought it to my parents' house over the holiday and everyone enjoyed it. Including my Mom who;s never played a video game in her life. Fun times:)

you have to look for the best options
ivillage.com have a list of dangerous games
homemakers.com also do it
but the best option is us as a parent to look for something safe and fun

I brought my daughter a tmx elmo and she was absolutley hysterical ( she is 16!) She was crying laughing and making a complete idiot of herself and it was worth it! She loves it brings joy to our family when she plays it......so much joy from one little present can't beat that!

The hand held leap pad my 3 year old loves it. It's helping her learn and she's attached to it.
