You'd better!
I was on the receiving end of those dear, dear painkillers at one time.
Labor is THE MOST painful experience a woman could ever experience, and while I'm all for women who can go through it without meds, I would never have been able to survive without an epidural.

For any male who disagrees with their wives/gf's using painkillers, consider trying this: Place your most private, most painful area in the hands of your lovely wife. As she's experiencing those excrutiating contractions and contemplating the dozen ways she'd love to kill you for making her go through this, she should have the right to squeeze your manhood in her hands as HARD as she can. Think of it as a relaxation ball for her, since you've denied her the painkillers. Maybe it's time for you to take some too, eh?

I delieverd both of my kids with out painkillers. I couldnt have an epidural because of previous surgury on my back and I chose not to use the painkillers that can go through the IV because it can make the baby sleep and cause breathing trouble. Don't get me wrong, it hurt to do it naturally but I managed to keep my cool and NOT scream. It can be done naturally if you have got breathing techniques and and have a good mind set. I did it with both of my 2 kids and my mom did it naturally with all 6 of hers.

you get to decide when you expel a watermelon from yours. Until then you better leave her alone. A woman feels absolutely desperate sometimes when they are delivering. Not all deliveries are the same. My first was so painful, contractions comming so fast that i couldn't catch my breath. Painkillers WERE necessary. My 2nd delivery went very well without any painkillers, though my husband rubbed my lower back all the way through..that really helped. Please be understanding of your wife.

You are not the one having the baby, so you really don't have a choice. Why don't you experience that type of pain without having any painkiller?

Let?

Let her let you have the baby.

Or- if it's that important to you (to have a baby regardless of the pain) love her unconditionally through and through all ways, always. That's probably enough to help conquer the pain.

If you can do that, then I'm sure she can handle a few hours of childbirth/ possibly excruciating pain without pain killers.

If you can't do that, then shut the *&!! up.

Let's start with the word "let" no one lets their partner, you have no right to say. Unless she has mental problems she has spoken with her OB and I hope that you have been going also so she knows the risks. It is her body and buddy you are not going through the pain. Support her in her design to do what she feels is right for the baby and for her body

Yes, its not your body thats in pain. Try having something the size of a watermelon squeezed out of something the size of a lemon and tell me that it doesn't hurt. Men have no idea what kind of pain labor is, and will never know. I have heard men compare kidney stones or broken bones to labor, it doesn't even come close. It is HER body and if she needs and wants pain meds, no one (not even the hubby) has the right to refuse it.
